Construction estimating questions and answers

The CCDC (Canadian Construction Documents Committee) defines estimates in four levels of precision:

  • Class D estimate: order of magnitude based on the client’s functional requirements.
  • Class C estimate: is based on project sketches.
  • Class B estimate: is based on preliminary design plans and specifications.
  • Class A estimate: is a detailed bottom-up estimate based on final design plans and specifications.

These classes help define the estimate’s level of detail and accuracy at different project stages, guiding decision-makers in risk management and resource allocation.
